Austin Kennon of Mountain View won the Young Farmers & Ranchers Discussion Meet at the Arkansas Farm Bureau 84th Annual Convention, Nov. 29 in Hot Springs. Kennon will now compete in January at the American Farm Bureau Federation conference in New Orleans.
Arkansas Farm Bureau recognized Chad Mooney of Clinton High School as its Outstanding Ag Educator. Beebe High School’s Zeb Prothro earned the Outstanding New Ag Educator Award, and Greenbrier High School grabbed the top spot as the Outstanding Ag Education Program. All were recognized at Farm Bureau’s 84th Annual Convention Nov. 29 at the Hot Springs Convention Center.
The Women’s Leadership Committee from Benton County is the Outstanding County Women’s Program award winner for 2018. The group was recognized Nov. 29, during Arkansas Farm Bureau’s 84th Annual Conference at the Hot Springs Convention Center.
Stone County has been named the state’s top county Farm Bureau organization for 2018. Arkansas Farm Bureau President Randy Veach and Vice President Rich Hillman presented the organization’s President’s Award Nov. 29 at the 84th annual Arkansas Farm Bureau Convention at the Hot Springs Convention Center.
Dana Stewart is the 2018 recipient of the Stanley E. Reed Leadership Award from the Arkansas Farm Bureau Federation. Stewart accepted the award Nov. 28 during organization’s 84th annual conference at the Hot Springs Convention Center. Arkansas Farm Bureau President Randy Veach and Charlene Reed, widow of ArFB’s late President presented the award.
Arkansas Farm Bureau highlighted the state’s U.S. congressional delegation Nov. 28, with its Friend of Farm Bureau Award during the opening session of the organization’s 84th Annual Conference at the Hot Springs Convention Center. U.S. Sens. John Boozman and Tom Cotton along with Reps. Rick Crawford (District 1), French Hill (District 2), Steve Womack (District 3) and Bruce Westerman (District 4) all were recognized for the prestigious award.
Once again, the final weekend of the Arkansas State Fair brought the annual Junior Livestock Auction and Arkansas Farm Bureau was on hand to support the hard-working youth from around the state who raised the prize-winning animals. Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson recently proclaimed October as Arkansas Farm to School Month. During the official ceremony, the Governor also took time to honor school garden and celebrate the 2018 Arkansas School Garden of the Year. Find out why "Farm to School" is so important in Arkansas.
Three years ago Sheridan Intermediate School partnered with the Grant County Cooperative Extension Service and other organizations to develop a school garden. The students recently harvested sweet potatoes they planted last spring and now the school has been recognized as having the state’s “Best School Garden” by the Arkansas Agriculture Department and Farm Credit.
