The White River is one of five waterways in Arkansas providing navigation and the delivery of goods to the Arkansas and Mississippi Rivers. Barge traffic on the White River is non-existent today because it has not been dredged since 2008. As a result the only grain storage company on the river has either sold or closed its facilities creating another hardship for farmers that have to find another place to deliver their grain. Gene Higginbotham, executive director of the Arkansas Waterways Commission discusses efforts to reopen the White River to barge traffic.
