Young Farmer & Rancher

Young Farmer & Rancher committees in many counties give members 18 to 35 an opportunity to conduct programs and participate in Farm Bureau activities.

There are annual Young Farmer & Rancher competitions in three categories:

  • The Achievement Award recognizing the outstanding young farmer or rancher for the year offers a pickup truck, cash and a trip to the American Farm Bureau Convention to compete in the national contest. The Achievement Award is designed for full-time farmers who are involved in Farm Bureau and in their communities.
  • The Excellence in Agriculture Award. Excellence in Ag is designed for part-time farmers who receive the majority of their income off the farm. This contest is based on involvement in Farm Bureau and in the community, as well as on the farm. It is also designed for the farm manager or crop consultant who is involved in Farm Bureau. Prizes include a John Deere lawnmower (sponsored by John Deere), a John Deere Gator (sponsored by Farm Credit and Arkansas Electric Cooperatives) and a trip to the American Farm Bureau Convention to compete in the national contest.
  • The Discussion Meet is an organized discussion of one of four topics or issues. Topics and web pages for finding information are enclosed. The organized discussion is in two rounds, with four to six people per team. The top four people are chosen from the first rounds to compete in the final round. These four will vye for the use of a Kubota tractor for one year (sponsored by Kubota), their choice of a Kawasaki 500 Mule or a Honda 500 ATV, and a trip to the American Farm Bureau Convention to compete in the national contest.
