State Dairy Foods Contest winners named
06/05/08

LITTLE ROCK – Victor King of Searcy (White County) and Zachary Early of Austin (Lonoke County) earned top honors at the 51st annual Arkansas Dairy Foods contest June 4 in Little Rock.

King, 15, son of Darvin and Vicky King, won the Main Dish category with “Pizza Rolls.”  Early, 16, son of Kenny and Brenda Early, won the Party Ideas category with “Mandarin Orange Cheesecake.”

Winners took home $150.

Contestants were judged on availability of ingredients, clarity and accuracy of their recipes, serving ideas, preparation techniques, following the recipe, taste and appearance of the end product, use of real milk and dairy products and originality. Arkansas Farm Bureau and Southwest Dairy Museum sponsor the contest.

In the Main Dish category were Hannah Robison of Russellville (Pope County) finished second with “Italian Empanadas,” and Kristen Mariott of Marshall (Stone County) finished third with “Cheese Burger Quiche Cups.”

In the Party Ideas category Tyler Vangilder of Russellville (Pope County) finished second with “Chocolate Roll with Chocolate Sauce.”  Brian Selby of Melbourne (Izard County) finished third with “Cheese Blintzes,” and John Dillard of El Dorado (Union County) finished fourth with “Creamy Roast Beef Roll-ups.”

Victor King

Victor King of Searcy displays his winning entry in the 51st annual Arkansas Dairy Foods contest. His recipe for “Pizza Rolls” took first place in the Main Dish Category June 4 in Little Rock. Victor is the 15-year-old son of Darvin and Vicky King. He received $150 for his win. Contestants were judged on the availability of ingredients, clarity and accuracy of recipe, serving ideas, preparation technique, following the recipe, taste and appearance of the end product, use of real milk and dairy products, and originality. The contest is sponsored by Arkansas Farm Bureau and the Southwest Dairy Museum.

Zachary Early

The contest is sponsored by Arkansas Farm Bureau and the Southwest Dairy Museum.
